I'm thinking of 12 bolt chevy or 9 inch ford rear end. How do I get disc brakes on the front of a 47 1.5 ton? | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | Since you are downgrading the load capacity at the rear you might replace the front axle with a 1/2-ton type and then use one of the 5-lug or 6-lug conversion kits available.
If you want to maintain your load capacity you'll want to use a bigger rear than the 12-bolt or 9-inch and the 1/2-ton front would be the wrong answer.

If you'd prefer to keep your truck a real truck you may find some ideas here. http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/bigbolts/p30swap/If you don't mind turning the truck into more of a car Steve's ideas could work just the same as they do for the 1/2 tons. You'll just have a heavier frame and larger than necessary fenders... I fabbed up my own bracketry. I cant really speak to how well it works since my truck hasn't hit the road yet, but the calipers are massive twin piston set ups, so I do believe it will work very well | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 . | . I did have to machine the bore open on the rotor, no big deal for any shop with a lathe.. | | |
