my '58 has a 4-speed and originally came with a 283. The nos. from the tranny apear to be
681701

Not sure what you're asking. You're wondering about the tranny and giving us a number off the pumpkin?

Anyway, spend some time looking at this site. (You may have to find some different numbers on your truck). This is about the nicest list of numbers for the 58 Chevy trucks that you'll come across.

sorry..I dint mean nos. were on punkin. nos are on rear of tranny. I was thinking punkin cause I cant find any nos. to id the rearend.
