Finally got the truck back on the road after a 5 month engine swap. Went from a 283/sm420 to a 5.3/4l60e setup. Much more fun to drive now, however I never guessed it would take as much time (and $) as it did.

I'd love to know about the swap. I don't have an engine for my truck yet but I do have a Nova subframe and I'm looking at the 4.8L with a 4L60E. edit: I looked at the photos and it looks nice. It gives me hope and ideas!

I was going to try a 6.0ltr swap with a 4L80 swap. Do you have any notes? Or anything to steer away from?

Thanks for looking,

My 59 has a TCI mustang II front end and a TCI leaf kit in the back. I originally had a 283 with sm420 in it. I was able to use adapters that adapted old three bolt sbc engine mounts to the 4 bolt ls engine. I cut the original trans cross member out and replaced it with a TCI crossmember meant for a 4l60E. Headers are hedmann (block hugger style) and I had to add an extra universal joint to get the steering linkage around the headers. I found a new trailblazer 5.3L radiator on ebay for cheap, so i bought it in hopes of making it work. I fabricated some simple brackets and it fits like it was meant to be in a 59 chevy truck. My column was already a shift column, so I put the shift lever back on and the shift linkage was fairly easy to set up. The wiring for the engine had already been modified when I bought it, but there are some good websites out there if you want to convert the wiring yourself. Finally, I already had an underbed tank in the truck, so I set up a inline fuel pump that runs into a corvette style filter that also regulates the pressure. from the filter one line continues to the fuel rail and another returns fuel to the tank.
