i have recently rebuilt my rochseter B carb and now i am trying to set the proper timing on my 216. i am setting my timing as per the manula of 5 degrees before TDC. One i crank the engine to 5 degrees before TDC i set the distributor right before firing the first cylinder. I hope that is correct. for my next problem after i put my distributor in all the way and i tighten it up and i try t start the car the distributor jumps 180 degrees.

Allow for the dist to rotate as it meshes with the drive gear before it slides into the oil pump tang. | | |
#67979 10/30/2006 5:36 PM | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 112 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 112 | before you put dist. in you want engine at 0 degrees, or top dead center. as stated above you can't time it without dist in. and if dist. jumps your not getting it in all the way..using screwdriver, turn the pump where you want it, then when you put dist. in, start it a with the tang a bit to the left, so when it hits the gear it will turn a bit,line up and drop all the way in.. | | |
