It has been sitting for several years. I am getting it back to driving condition for her. I replaced the gas tank. Now I am trying to get the gas gauge to work.
I thought the easiest way to get to the wiring on the back of the gas gauge was to pull the cluster. I have not been able to figure how to remove the cluster. Does it go toward the firewall or toward the steering wheel. Is there some hidden fasteners holding it in?
I am usually good at solving puzzles, but this one has me stumped. I don't remember exactly what I had to do to get mine out because its been a couple of years but I do remember it was kind of a pain. It seams like you may have to go up under the dash and take some screws out. once you get it loose it is a tight fit to get it out. I would double check the wire going to the tank first I had a bad conection or a bad ground on mine when it quit working. I would hate to see you go through taking the dash apart if thats not the problem. I think you have to get it in just the right position for it to come out but it definetly comes out the front | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | From my experience the cluster seems to hang up on the 5 speed nut clipped to the dash for the cluster screws. I've tried slipping putty knifes in between the cluster and the dash where the screws are. It didn't seem to help that much, it still took a good pop to get the cluster out.

| | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 | The five screws on the face of the bezel must be removed and the switches on the lower area of the bezel must be removed, as well, whereas they will interfere with the cluster coming forward. It is also a good idea to unscrew the speedo cable from the back of the speedometer, along with the capillary tube for the oil pressure gauge, if so equipped. You will also need to unplug the intermediate dash cluster harness from the main underdash harness, in order to totally remove the cluster from the dash assembly. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 37 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 37 | Thanks to everyone for the instructions and advice.
