Ever since doing a T-5 swap in my '52 there has been an almost constant grinding/rubbing noise that speeds up and slows down with the truck. It is there with the clutch pedal pressed in and let out. The transmission shifts/drives fine and there were no metal flakes in the fluid when I changed it. The driveshaft was cut and balanced. What could this be?

Some things that I am thinking... input shaft bearing is bad, TO bearing is adjusted to rest on the fingers, TO fork ends should be round (welded flat because I thought this was wear), or the rear U-joint needs to be greased (I packed it when I put it back on but never shot it on the zert)... any thoughts?

If it was the input shaft brg. you will hear it in neutral & it would go away when you put the clutch in. If it is any trans. brg. it will be much louder in all gears except 4th. I wouldn,t suspect a u-joint either. What about wheel brgs. How about diff. brgs. Did you change the rear end at the same time. The t.O. brg adjustment is easy to check & if it not contacting the clutch fingers it wouldn,t make any noise.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

The rearend is a F*rd 9" and was in there before the tranny swap and there were no problems with the differential or the wheel bearings. I will do some checking this weekend on the TO bearing but it sounds like this is probably the input shaft bearing.

Would wonder if you have contact between the tranny and a body part. I had to do some extra hammering once after making that change on another truck. Now I have a muncie and they all are noisy.
