The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay 6 volt battery

Now I know where my post on this (from the other day) went. lol

In my 53, I received a 6 volt battery. It was old, the caps were rotted, and the outer cells low on fluid. I filled the cells with water and checked the voltage. It showed 6+ volts.

I would like to use this battery to start the 216 engine while working on the truck.

Any suggestions or thoughts? Should I take it down to Autozone for a charging?

Give it a shot after fixing it up. Load testing is what is needed. Probably need a new battery though.

Just showing 6V doesn't tell you anything about whether it will crank an engine. As David said, it needs a full charge then a load test.
