I'm pretty sure they went the way of the buggy whip, along with the 250, not long after that. '82 or '83 I think, with the intro of the 4.3L V-6 | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 252 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 252 | By the way. If you have four bolts on your side cover, It's a Muncie with un synced 1st gear. If you have seven bolts, it's a fully synchronized Saginaw. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but, speaking trucks only, I believe Muncie's were used pretty exclusivly prior to 1966, and behind six cyl engs til 68. Saginaws only on eight cyl engs from 67 and behind all 6's and 8's after 1968. The car were very basic and plain.
The story the dealership had was the Chev had a large order from some country in the Middle East for a bunch of these cars and the deal fell through, but they had already built the cars.
It was a 3 speed manual with a floor shifter. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 23 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 23 | Not sure about trucks, but my dad had a 76 Nova w/3 on tree & 305. I could be wrong, but I think the late 70's early 80's Malibu's/El Caminos had 3 speeds.
