I have arochester Model B Carb. I have just finished rebuildin it. However when i use the float setting chart that was given with the carb float level 1 and 9/32 and float drop 1and 3/4. When i use this setting the carb floads all over the place and into the manifold and even leaks all over the engine. i have increased the float level point to about 1 and 20/32 to try to lower the amount of fuel in the bowl. this sort of worked my car did start but it will only run as long as i press and hold the gas pedal about half way and at that point of time it runs but sputters and has a very rough idle. but as soon as i release the gas the car stalls | | |

Something is not put together properly. Check and see if the air horn isn't warped either. This article pertains to 2 carbs but the pictures might help you get things in the right order. They don't always work according to the specs. I just did one of these carbs on a 56 Car and it would in no way run right with the 1 9/32 setting. It took a couple of attemps at different settings to get it right. Fred

The top of the float should be just above the flange on the top, turn it over and it should drop about 3/8" to 1/2". Check the float while inverted blow in the gas supply inlet, should not pass air, lift the float and it will pass air. May sound "shade tree" but it works. I have 2 Rochester B carbs on my 248 GMC and they work fine, no leaks at all and it runs good. | | |
