I found someone in town with a manual 3-speed Transmission from a 1968 Chevy El Camino. Anyone know if it will it fit a 66 longbed truck? Any other issues I should consider? Thanks.

far as i know that 3spd manual in the Elky should be the same 3spd that would have came in your 66 but if yous came with a 4spd you're drive shaft won't work (if its the typical top loader truck granny 4spd) so you might have to find another truck like you 66 (i think 63-66) that had a 3spd and get the entire drive shaft and the crossmember my 64 had the 3spd column shift but i can't remeber how the crossmember was in it, i have all the parts yet but i'm not at home (in minnesota) cause i'm going to school in wisconsin

Rance,
The 68 El Camino more than likely has a Saganaw trans (7 bolt side cover) this is a full syncro 3 speed and work well in the older trucks. You will need to modify/cut your drive shaft to accept the later fine spline input yoke and will need either an after market floor shift assy or find the column shift parts for your truck. I hope this helps, Fred

Thanks guys. That's what I needed to hear. I think I'll stick with my 4-spd. for now. smile

PS: Did I mention they were giving it away?

Take it, you can always sell it or use it for trading stock for something you need. Fred
