52 3600 runs fine down the road. the aggravating thing is that when you change gear....any gear...as soon as you push in the clutch and let off the gas the motor revs up about 500-1000 rpm for a couple of seconds before it backs down. the manual choke works fine and is not sticking, there is no heat riser. is this an internal carb problem or a vacuum problem?
Thanks,

Dash Riprocker,

My first thought would be a vacuum leak in the system. Under high vacuum, as when the throttle closes, air is entering the system and causing the engine to speed up for a moment.

The power valve in the carburetor reacts to this change, but in reverse to what you are seeing.

The vacuum advance is also on this circuit, but should not see this high vacuum if the throttle plate is closed.

I would check the vacuum advance diaphragm for leaks, and would make sure the carburetor base gasket is good.

If you poked around with the engine running at a idle, and shot carb cleaner in suspicious places, you might find a leak.

Sticking throttle linkage could be a possibility, but I'm sure you have checked that, right!

You don't have a dashpot that keeps the throttle from backing off too fast, do you? These were installed on carburetors for smog purposes.

I wonder if a loose or broken motor mount could be causing the linkage between pedal and engine to be tweaking which might cause a momentary increase in RPM?
