I bought these things thinking it would be obvious where they go but they don't seem to fit anywhere I've tried so far.

I think they may go on the firewall just below the two hinge bolt holes. There may be a gap between the fender and firewall that these fill. It's been awhile since the 47 came apart.

Woody,

It's not a pretty job but here are reproduction plates installed with a sloppy sealant job.

The channeled rubber seals come in this 8-piece fender to firewall gasket set available from most vendors (America Classic photo). Classic Parts has them in this 8-piece set, even though they are not in the picture.
