I picked up a GMC parts truck in Hollandale, MN. Andy bought the motor and I got the rest of it. I then picked up a 2009 International tandem cutoff in Watseka, IL and put it on top of the parts truck. I then picked a fire truck in Marshfield, MO that runs, drives and stops with only 16k miles. I picked up a set of 3 piece 10 hole motor wheels with tires.and put them on top of the fire truck. I put a light bar on the back of the fire truck to make the overhang legal. The whole mess is sitting in my truck yard now.

Did you take US 60 across Mo.? If so, you should have stopped by. Sorry, I read Mansfield not Marshfield, you came down I-44.

I took I57 out of IL to I70 and then to ST. Louis. From STL it was I 44 all the way to Chickasha, Ok. I headed south from there.

What do they call that low profile firetruck bed?

I like the look of it and could see using it on one of my trucks, minus the fire apparatus ahead of it.

Great finds Ken. What are your plans for all of it, especially the tandem axles? The fire truck looks in pretty good shape as is. Love the grill on that truck. I just got the chrome back for my 860 and had all the grill work done too.

Steve, the previous owner removed a lot of the fire truck stuff and tried making an 18 foot roll off car hauler out of it. He did a lot of work on it and did some excellent welding, but he had too much over hang on the back. He was planning on putting an air compressor where the pump was. He had it on Craigslist for a long time with no pictures. He finally managed to send me a cell phone picture on a Saturday. I jumped on the first plane to Kansas City Sunday morning, drove down to Marshfield and bought it. I was on the first flight out of Kansas City the next morning. The fire truck bed is coming off. I am leaning toward putting my 525 Holmes wrecker on it and making a truck tractor out of the the truck that now has the wrecker. I have a 60 year old drop deck trailer that would look good behind a tractor. I have a 20 foot tilting car hauler with a 16k winch and I don't need a roll back.

Billy, the tandem cutoff is for a long wheelbase low mileage single axle 9200i International. We pull bottom dumps in our business. I have a Jancy Slugger magnetic drill and will bolt it on with flange bolts. Our trailers are long enough that all it takes is a 160" wheel base tractor to make the 51' bridge law. Low mileage single axles can be bought really cheap and we can make the conversion in a day or so. I fell in love with the massive chrome grille on those models of GMC when I was a 20 year old kid in college and they still fascinate me. http://picasaweb.google.com/crenwelgeoil/GMC55002#5513056183089104626

Ken, the front of the fire truck looks pretty similar to the truck you are standing next to in that great picture. Its the right color too!
I can't wait to put the grill together for my 860 and mount it on my truck. Not quite there yet.

Actually they are both 550 series. The fire truck is titled a 57 but it was probably built in 56 because it still has the 324 while the 57 came with a 370 engine. I have a wrecker with a 370. The parts truck in front of the firetruck has nice front sheet metal and a chrome grille to spruce up the wrecker. I am anxious to see your 860. I always wanted one, but I wound up with an International with a Cummins and have run Internationals with Cummins ever since.
