Search the site for a number of threads related to steering gear lube and Penrite in particular. Penrite is fine but you can simply use chassis lube (such as Lucas) in your steering gearbox without any trouble. Some of us add a small amount of 80 W gear lube to this to top it off.

After searching for the stuff all over California and getting weird looks from the guys at John Deere, I finally found some at a John Deere dealer just outside Lewiston Idaho while on vacation. I was driving from Boise to Lewiston and saw the dealer along the highway, put on the brakes, quickly turned into the parking lot, and finally found cornhead grease, my Holy Grail.

I'm not sure how close they are to a deal but I'd guess they're 1.5-2 months from stocking it. I bought some from a gentleman in the UK. It ended up being like $30.00 with shipping, but I just needed to get the project done. Let me know if you want the contact and I'll get it when I'm back at my office. | | |
