Today was a huge step forward for me. I finally got my truck started. yahoo It is running really well and started easily but I noticed water leaking from the back of the transmission at the torque tube. Before I start pulling it apart I figured it would be smart to get some insight first.
3 speed to the best of my knowledge. headscratch
Has not been put in gear, running in neutral.
Definitely water that is leaking, not tranny fluid. Water is clear no color (rust etc.)
It must be coming from inside the tranny?

PO must have had it outside at some point in time, really not too sure. About a drip per sec or two for the first few mins then slowed down. Looks like maybe a quarter cup came out in total.
Truck is a 1946 1/2 ton, original other than rims/wheels, seats, paint.

If you are talking about the front, I would be draining the transmission and refilling it with fluid. You will get an idea of how much water is in there.

Your right, must be done. Hopefully it's not too bad but I can't wait to see what comes out.

I'd also loosen the torque-tube u-joint bell/ball/cover fitting and drain it.

You might want to consider removing the rear-end cover to check of water in it - the torque-tube seal might be bad. If this is a silly notion, people will post better advice.

Drain the trans and fill with some 10 wt. oil and marval mistery oil about 1/2 and 1/2 run the engine and leave the trans in neut. for maybe 30 min. than drain that should mix with the water and help carry the water out when You drain it right after You shut down the engine. Also You're going to have to open the ball joint that goes to the tube like Tim said to get the water out of there.Than refill with some gear lube .
