Removed pistons today, two of them had 2 rings in one groove (second from top). They had a "normal" size ring along with a very thin ring in the same groove. Anyone familiar with this? Your top ring land gets the most wear and you can recondition the piston by reaming out the groove, getting it square again and installing a ring insert. However, I don't know what would be going on with the second ring groove unless for some reason it was damaged and they repaired it by the method I have mentioned. | | |
