saw one once and now can't find one.

anybody know where to get one of these?

spare is held upright behind driver in bed.
mount is a large L-bracket that mounts to the side of the bed and to floor. there is a stud on the upright part of the L-bracket to secure the tire.

It was probably home-made, all the factory carriers are outside or underneath to the best of my knowledge.

Krash - it helps if you mention what series truck you're concerned with, or at least have it in your profile

the 55-59 series had an in bed spare carrier available [and later series fleetsides] but pretty rare in my experience - as mater sez, home made works

sorry
another newbie mistake.
I have a modified AD (51) so it dosen't nessesarily have to be period correct. However the one example i remember seeing was on an AD.

no doubt there were always aftermarket things available, especially from JC Whitney

I agree that there were a lot of them around, and they were homemade. Seems to me that anyone with an old stick welder,or a MIG,could weld one up in a few minutes.

chicklin
that's pretty close to what i remember seeing.
the bottom part that bolts to the bed was longer (to take all the weight/force off the bed side).
it also had a u-shape stand off made of strap iron to keep the tire off the bedside.
looks like i may just have to make/have something made.
