OK just spent 2 hours on the net trying to learn/pick out a basic alarm system for the truck.
H E L P !
It's overwhelming all the extra stuff packed into today's systems (and not needed/wouldn't work anyway on an antique).
Any recommendations?? Any brands still make a dependable basic unit?

Starter disable, 2-stage shock, door and hood opening, tilt (mercury sw - to keep from jacking up truck), maybe anti-car jacking... can't think of anything else that would be ness. Yet most have page after page of features that aren't needed on a basic vehicle.

Do you want a warning/alarm system and/or a starting-disable system?

Maybe if you post this in two or three different places you'll get better answers.

why buy something like that off the net? look in the yellow pages - find an alarm/security shop - visit them and discuss your desires .... if modern high tech security systems were easy to understand and had tutorials on the net .... what good would they do? find a professional for advice and recommendations

worked for me, got an off the shelf unit for my bus project from local folks who are always nearby to explain, advise, and supply accessories/add ons

I agree, buying these things off the web can be hit or miss, some things are better done in person. Go to a local shop with your rig, tell them what you want for it, and ask for recomendations. These folks will know off the top of thier head what will do the job for your application, what it would cost to have them instal it, or have parts on hand to sell you to DIY.
