Hi,

If you look at this nice trucks delux interior door panels -- Delux interior ...

Well then you start thinking you want to make your own not that hard but how are they fastened to the standard door panel? Are there clips, hidden screws etc.. Anybody have a pic or the backside of a pair of delux door panels or even better a drawing...

Cheers and big thanks in adv Dyna

most likely glue ... the actual metal panels are no different than what you have

As you know the metal panels are held on with screws. If you don't see screws in the pic, they are either black, or he glued the material to a fiberboard then glued it on or could have used some kind of "cliperdouvers" that fit into exsisting threaded holes. There are flat head/button head press in "screws" that have serations on them or "barbs" that would hold it on. Similar to those used on the firewall kick board. These would be between the material and the whatever ridgid used. Just my guesses.

Thanks Bartamos and Squeeze smile

I think Squeeze is closer unless it was some form of clip in one form or the other, like on the backside just like normal car door panels or for that matter the firewall. However this would mean holes where made in the metal panels to accommodate the clips.

I don't think there was screws through the fabric, that would mean a washer protecting the fabric otherwise it would tear. I don't see that in the picture but that could be that its black and the screw is placed so it's not visible due to that.

Well unless somebody with an original delux will tell us we will not really know smile. Reason I'm asking is that I want (will maybe) continue the "delux" fabric door panel the whole way back in the Burb I'm doing up. Since there is access panels in that location I need to do some sort of screw or clip solution and I just wanted to make it looking more original hence my question how was it made on the pickup...

I did not know that Deluxe had fabric covered panels? I've seen that pic before from squeeze and I guess I thought the person added them. I have seen post here about what delux meant and don't remember anyone saying that either?

I'm not sure what option those panels were part of, but there was a number of upscale interior options and different "packages" of them .... there were at least 2 "cab" packages, "custom cab", and "deluxe cab", + separate interior packages

the reason I think they were glued on is, being the same fabric as those seats it'd be tough enough to glue well - also if you look at that raised rib on the sheet metal panel, any stiffner worth using for a clip-on deal would bring the fabric up too much, hafta be specially shaped around the edge to fit the bevel of the ridge or stick out above it

not sure the door panel insert area would line up well enough with anything down the rear sidewalls to look good with just a strip that high to the back, but if the whole lower wall was done it might work .... and covering those access panels wouldn't matter, bartamos will tell ya, they're useless grin

Bartamos and Squeeze

Apprentice as I am (at time of post) I simply don't have a clue if there was a factory option for Suburbans that gave you fabric door panel inserts all the way down to the cargo doors.

The raised rib surrounding the door panel insert area lines up just perfectly with the raised rib down the side of the Burb (or panel van) as can be seen on this picture.

The thing is that I think it will look like a option that could have been available from Chevy. I just love when people scratch there head asking them self and say "never seen that option".

As for the access panels, well even if they might be useful for for some moonlight activities there even more useful when you poor lots of oil down those side panels to prevent rust. Since I live in United Rustdom, in Rustex I intened to poor a few gallons down there smile....

PS: Hmm don't think a good clip thin and springy would raise the fabric at all. Rather so that it's a lot cheaper to glue. No holes to drill, no logistic etc.. just slap it on..

Never seen an original like that. But that does not mean there were none. If not, just call it Custom.

My '58 has original cloth inserts panels. I'll have to take a look tomorrow but it seems to me like the fabric was attached to a chip board or card board backing and that it clips to the metal door panel. Like I said, I'll have to have a look tomorrow to be sure.

I'll be interested to see what you find Old Gold - had no clue that they did that as original equipment.

Very curious too, talked (email) with Steve how has now sold his very low milage 58 -- he said he remembered them to be attached with clips, but would love to see what Mike with Old Gold finds out...

Cheers Dyna

Well after studding some pics of my 59 Fleetside deluxe which has the same panels I'm pretty sure it's clips.

Cheers Dyna

My apologies for not getting back with this info sooner. I posted the above in July and then it completely slipped my mind. I haven't been on the Bolt for a while and when I logged on I saw my own post and realized I had never followed up.

Anyway, I went out to the garage and shot a few pics. I'm not sure if the cloth on the panels is original or not but the carboard and clips are. I know the cloth has been there at least since 1964 so it might be original. We are only the second owners of the truck and I knew the original owners who were neighbors of ours. The truck needs a restoration but is pretty unmolested as far as orginality.

On the driver's side panel the clips are pulled out of the cardboard so I could pull the panel away from the door and took a few pictures. I also removed one of the clips so that I could photograph it. I bent it a little getting it out but you should be able to get the idea of the shape. Don't hesitate to post any questions. I'll try to keep an eye on this thread.

Here's the photos:

almost forgot, the cloth appears to be glued to the panel along the back edges and then the panel is clipped to the door.

Any reason you couldn't use Velcro (hook & loop)? Put enough around the edge of the panel, I gotta believe it would stay. Thinking about doing it with mine unless someone tells me they've tried it unsuccessfully.
