How difficult is it to find a 1960-61 hood in decent shape? I've got a 66 GMC burb but love the look of the older hoods. The info. in here is great.

I have 1 if your interested. IT has a few shallow dents across the top of it.

Hey great. What does the rust look like? How much you need for it?
Also, I've learned from the "6066 GMC Guy" I would need the old catch
mechanism on the radiator support, would you have this as well? Thanks.

Mine has no rust and if you go to 1960 k-20 search you will find pics of hood

Remember the GMC and Chevy Hoods were different.

I bought one from a guy in Arab, Alabama who assured me his buddy is a good body man and had done all the body work on it and it was "excellent." There was very little rust to begin with, and just "a very little filler" was used on it before painting it powder blue.

He was mostly right about the rust: just a little pin-holing at one of the hinge areas (spackled over with Bondo), but the front area between the bulges had new metal welded in that was very clearly done "close enough." I don't know what I'm gonna do about those contours, because they really don't match what was there originally, and were simply blended in with Bondo.

As for the rest... I guarantee his buddy doesn't own anything close to a body hammer and dolly. Not only do areas of the hood look like a sack of walnuts, but the clown didn't even tap down the OUTDENTS! He just built the level of the hood up with Bondo until the dents didn't show.

All that being said, I've looked locally for a hood for a few years, and the one I have isn't a rusted hulk like most '60-'61 hoods are, so I'm gonna try to fix it.

But I'd still like to kick the guy in the... twin cowls.

Ya I've been looking at the 60/61 GMC hoods and even though I'm a traditionalist ( keeping as close to stock as practical ) I actually like the chevy hood better. Hope it's not "taboo" to put a chevy hood on a GMC?

Don't know if it's "acceptable", but that's what I wanted to do to my 1960 GMC for about 20 years - install a 1960 Chevy hood. Sadly I never found an example in good condition at a price I could afford. What I like about the 1960 Chevy design is it's the style the entire series of trucks was designed with in the beginning, and in my opinion is the best looking of them all.

More recently, I've been playing around with a custom hood design which I would like even better, combining the upper panels of the early and late style. If I can complete a version in 1/25 scale I'll post photos for opinions.
