I have a hood that came with my truck. I picked up a hood that was in better condition. The hood I picked up is identical to the hood that came with my 55 truck and in every respect is identical to the hood. But the 55 hood I picked up does not have any holes on the front of it to mount the hood emblem. At first I figured that some one had welded up the holes. But there are no signs on the hood that the holes had been welded up. My question is, did they make a 55 chevy truck hood at the factory that did not have the holes drilled for the hood emblem?? If not then whoever did the weld up job on the hood did one heck of a job. Thanks for any help

Could it be a reproduction hood? The repro bed sides I bought a long time ago didn't have the fender holes.

Just a thought.

i don't think so it is made of the same guage steel. And it is a exact match to the hood I took off the truck. Only difference is there are no holes drilled for the hood emblem.

is this a 55.1 or 55.2? GM never left off the identifying trim on a truck, although it's conceiveable it could be a service replacement, which wouldn't have any trim, and if it fit more than one year [55.2-56] they'd leave off the holes .... but if it's an exact match for your original, then ya don't really need any "help", even for the hole locations, do ya grin

It is a 55 2nd series, and yes I could drill the holes needed for the emblem. But I have the original hood with the holes present. And if the hood with no emblem holes is for a specific model I would not want to drill holes into the hood for the emblem and alter the hood. But if it is just a factory replacement hood and not for a specific model. I will go ahead and drill the holes for the emblem. As hard as nice original parts are to find these days. I would hate to mess up a perfectly nice original part that could be used on the vehicle it was made for.
