You lucky so-and-so. Where did you find it? I've been hunting for a while for my 49 with no luck. Not looking in the right places, I guess. If it is from a 1-ton and isn't a 4.10 ratio, you may want to hang onto it anyway. Randy's Ring and Pinion (sometimes) has gearsets for 4.10, but they only fit in later carriers. And they COST... Plus the install kit.
Good luck, I hope it's the 4.10.
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

The 4.10 is hard to find and will swap right into either housing so if it really is 4.10 you've a great find! Can you post exact details of the donor truck? 1969. Chev or GMC? Auto or manual? What motor? These details may help others looking for this diff.

So if you have to turn 3000 rpm to go 60 mph with the 4.57 you'll only have to turn 2700 with the 4.10. (somebody check my math) Does it make such a difference is a valid question.
