I'm trying to make some simple door panels out of 3/16" ABS plastic for my '52. The panels will be covered with fabric when done.

Here is my problem. When I secure the panel to the door, it rubs against the door lever machanism causing it to bind up. I can get the handle to work if I space the panel out, but then the stud for the handle is too short. The regulators are new reproductions. I really don't want to space the panels out and I don't want to add extensions onto the studs.

Before I cut, grind, weld and redesign the regulators, I thought I'd ask if anybody else has had this type of problem and how did you resolve it. Are the reproduction regulators my problem?

would putting a couple spacers to slightly bow your door pannel around the linkage and give you a little clearance be too noticable once installed?

I'll be making full door panels soon and may have to go thru this also.

3/16 might be too thick of panel material

I glued material on that cheap cardboard the vendors sell and sprayed a sealer on the back.

There is a regulators pad and plastic washer set that goes on ,the pad goes between the door and the panel and the plastic washer goes between the panel and the handle to keep it from screwing up your panel this would give you the spacing so you're reg. would work right I got mine from Clasic Parts of America and it's for both doors all 4 handles.

I didn't know about that foam spacer piece stuck onto the door. I do have the fat washer and plastic washer so now I think I can make it work. I knew it had to be something real simple!
