For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 388 | Engine installed after 1 yr, wiring done to start the eninge. When I crank the starter engine rotates with starting gear but doesnot fire up. I put the inline spark plug tester 1 at a time and saw the light come up in every spark plug. What does that prove, does it prove distributor is functioning and the spark plugs are also good or spark plugs could be a problem also. I have put the gas tank and I have gas coming up to inline filter close to caruberator. I put some gas from the top of carburetor. it wont fire up some time some back fire and some smoke from exhaust manifold. Is this electical problem or carburetor need a rebuild. It was sitting for exactly one year before that it was deinately running.
Need help and inputs.

Did you do anything to the engine, other than take it out and store it? Spark plugs quite often give problems when they have some mileage on them, and then are not used for a period of time. The engine may also have sticky valves, just a couple of things to look at, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 388 | 3B thanks for your response, yes before the engine was removed, I think a year or so before I changed all the spark plugs and all the plugs wires. it was running good. I will change the spark plugs and try otherwise I will try to rebuild carburetor, I have a kit. But I don't want touch carburetor before I know all electrical and plugs are good.
I still want to know some more answers based on my description is my distributor working fine or not.

When you try to start it again, check to see if the choke is functioning, if it is the float may be stuck and the engine may have flooded. After cranking for a few seconds, open the choke and check for fuel dripping from the carbs fuel nozzles, hope that helps. | | |
