It looks like a 216 valve cover , can anyone tell me any differences between the 2 engines. 216 are interchangeable and a direct bolt in....
228 has an external 1/4 oil line in the front of the engine.... none on the 216....
To the best of my knowledge the valve covers are not interchangeable between these two engines..... you may have a 216..... was it original..?? was GMC using 216 due to a shortage...who knows..?
Any pictures available...? where are you located in Ontario??? as I have a spare 228 parts engine..... which was in a Chev and I replaced with a 261.....

6 = year 1946
94 = GMC 3/4 ton
24 = pickup delivery 125 1/4" wheelbase
03244 = regular production number
Canadian produced GMC light trucks of this period had Chevrolet engines, yours had a 216 when it left the factory. GMC engines are longer than Chevy engines, so swapping is not a drop in proposition, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 145 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 145 | Thanks for the info 3b , I did not pay much for this truck, but am amazed at the solid body after all this time.(the windows still roll up and down and doors close not too bad). Will try to get some pics of it soon. As for the engine Bob I still don;t have this one free yet and anti freeze came out first when I drained the old oil out so I may be looking for another once this one is diagnosed.Thanks Murray | | |
