I'm trying to determine my original paint color for my 1954 Chevy 3100 1/2 ton Deluxe. It's an extremely faded orange / red. My grandma thought it was maroon. Is there a place on the body that gives you the paint code that was orignally applied?

There was no paint code on the truck.

Orange might be Omaha Orange.

There was no Maroon in 1954.

Red might be Commercial Red.

Here is a 1954 color pinwheel

Here is a weak attempt to show 54 exterior colors and pinstripe colors. Please note that old color chips are distorted, and scanning the old chips add to the distortion, and PC monitors also distort colors.

Can you post a photo of your truck?

Paint chips with a few more colors

Here are a few more colors. You may be looking at coppertone. It will appear red until you look at it closer. If you look around vccachat.org you may find a link to Roger James Coppertone 54 Chevy 3104 hydra-matic truck. It is absolutely beautiful and will show you what the color looks like new.

Your truck looks like Commercial Red.

The other truck does not look like Commercial Red. (but, I am marginally color blind; and, colors get distorted from oxidation and scan/display distortion).
