What I have learned the hard way is that all 235's are not the same. This block has a Chevy parts number of 3764476 which I understand makes it a 56-62 engine. The oil pump screen, tube and pipe from pump to block from my 54 "parts" engine do not work on the newer project. Any thoughts on how I can retro-fit or where I can find replacement parts that will fit? Can I still use the 54 pan? | | |

I beleive the pan would fit, but the internal stuff won't. I had this trouble with my 261. To solve it the dealer let me order everyone the the 5 differnt pumps listed. i just picked out the one that matched mine and sent the rest back. The fittings from the pump to the block and the oil screen assembly are going to have to come from an engie of the same yr and type. | | |

Hundreds of un-enlightened people have cast these reliable old 235 engines aside to put boring crate 350s in their truck. A pat on the back to you for not doing so.
That said, it should be easy enough to find someone with an old 235-261 laying around you could raid for parts.
I'm sure you already know the pump itself should be a new one for your rebuilt engine.
