Hi, I have 1953 GMC,270 CI, Hydormatic, 5 window basket case converted to 12 volt, I have new style ignition switch and it works great but I wanted to put original switch in and use starter button. No matter what combination I try on the 3 posts on back of ignition switch the moment I turn the key on it trys to start. Is this a bad switch or how can I find correct way to wire if possible.

You need to remove the wire that goes to the starter selinoid & hook it to the push button with a hot wire going to the other term on the push button.

In other words, hook the two switches up in series so you need both closed to send juice to the starter.

I determined the wiring problem and ignition is now working as it was in 1953.

New Item:

in my 1953 GMC five window, 270 and hydromatic. I was checking wiring under the dash and found wires going to right and left side to something in area of hindges, were these lights or dome light switches when door opened? the switches or whatever they are do not seem complete was there such things in 53 as switches for dome light?

no there were no 'courtesy lights' or door switches originally, must be something a PO added, maybe even speaker wires?
