My 46 1/2 ton chev does not have the rubber grommet around the gas tank fill tube but has a piece bolted on. I have seen pictures of others like this and would like to know why. What determines the difference?

There are two different versions, the rubber neck version and a leather gasket version, the latter being the earlier truck.

Mine has neither rubber or leather. It has a metal plate held on by screws and the threads for the screws are part of the truck. I saw a picture lately of another one like mines.

The rubber or leather gasket would be under the steel piece held with 4 screws.
