Hi,

I seen that there are two types of tail/license plate houses/brackets on the left rear barn door. One is pretty big and kind of square which the other one is tiny and I think it's just a lic plate lamp if even that. Which light is the correct one, and do any of you know if the lense is avalible for any of them?

Look at your other post answers. Just the square-ish red lens is available. Neither of the clear is available. A search on here will have a post with all that info and pics from Bill. Bill (Squeeze) has a picture of every part ever made for every truck ever made, give or take a few. He is the 5 star General of the Task Force. By the way, your truck is in the, so called, Task Force Era...55-59. FYI

grin not so! just have owned and parted more than my share because others didn't hold up their end wink

the "3rd brake light" style was a hold over from the 47-54 trucks, which didn't have the 2 outer "fender mount" brake lights, used until the end of the 56 run, then the small license only light was used 57-59 .... the housing nub and glass is identical to the one used on '39 cars, although I don't think the glass is reproduced for that either [might watch for a shot glass the right size tho grin ]

yes Chevy, don't know any more than I got the one pictured from a guy who specializes in '39 Chevs ... might be a Canadian thing, I'll ask, but it's not likely you'd find 39 car parts before you find 58 truck parts wink

my mistake!! he said the light is from the 40 deluxe and 41 standard cars - I guess that's why he gave it to me, being into 39's grin

he also said your clam shell handle/latch might be the same as the 55-57 station wagon, GM did that sort of thing a lot - don't know if it's repro'd for the wagon but worth checking some of those vendors, especially Danchuk .... and something to keep in mind for all the TF burb guys here

That is a good idea, that was one of the things I was checking for my 58 Caballero. I should have thought about it with the truck too..

Looking at the catalog at least they have some form or retractor wires might not be the same but at least it's kind of the same functionality (They are most likely too short).

Will continue looking for it although but so far no handle or latch but if it is the same then it would be a lot easier. Think I still will go for Barn doors although..

Re, the light as long as you have the hardware then it shoudl not be to difficult to get the light it self -- Chevy should have made a few 40 delux and 41 standard cars..

now that you mention it, someone here did have some info about using those wagon retractors, and if I remember right, the company that made them still does - have to search a bit in here to find that unless someone else remembers about it ... Caballero?? the "most chrome in one place" ever made? grin .... that Desert Valley place might be a scource for the Caballero, and they may even have the 5-7 wagon handle

the car light has a different shaped base, with provision for the handle, so the only parts really the same as the truck are the plate holder and the bulb cover w/ glass insert, that base is what'll be hard to find if the doors don't have the light

smile Thats why I love it beside you ride in style 4dr HT wagon are just so cool. Don't need much to that one, got it with a ton of spares and it's 100% complete. I was cheking out the chevy parts to see if the tailgate/liftgate weather stripping would be able to fit with a bit of modification.

The doors comes with the base and all but might need new cover and glass..

Looks like the latches are the same on a 55-57 Chevy and Pontiac station wagon.. Here is a pic from a ebay auction (pic is saved for future reference).

However the handle is not the same. The handle case (or what ever you should call the lower part that the handle is rotating in) is too tall and it's also has holes for screws. This parts is much lower on a truck tailgate, and it's screwed from the inside. I have however no doubt that you can use this handle with small mod of how it's attached.

I don't know how correct the rod actuators are but I'm pretty sure you can use those too. Note, that a Nomad has different actuators since it doesn't have a real turning handle but a more of a door style handle and push button.

NOTE: I can't warrant that the above is 100% correct. I'm just looking at the pics and I don't have access to a 55-57 Chevy stationwagon, but it looks good.
