Folks -

I've researched vendors for new 12V wiper motors to the tune of $150 200; and that's fine, but I am wondering if there's a "Junkyard" alternative. The only thing I found in searching the archives (and I did give a pretty good go at it) was a conversion from some English Ford motor or somesuch, from one of our UK Bolters...

Someone must have already figured this out - what other 12 wiper motor will fit in an 47 (late) 1 ton?

I'd appreciate any info - we just got our next "project truck" earlier this week. The wiper motor is gone and the PO doesn't know a thing about it....

TIA,

John

There's nothing particularly exotic about a wiper motor. With the proper mounting bracket and bellcrank length, just about any basic motor should be able to work. It will just be a matter of finding one that will fit in the same general location as the vacuum motor, and can be adapted to work the original linkage going to the wiper arm pivots. A little basic engineering should allow you to avoid all those ripoff artists who have already figured out how to adapt something!

Yes, understood - I know that many of the motors are quite similar; I was simply trying to save some time and perhaps aggravation in making the modification. If someone knows of a bolt-up or an easily adapted unit, I'd appreciate knowing. I wasn't attempting to rip anyone off or steal any ideas whatsoever.

Again, thanks for the input...

I'd encourage you to pony up and get a vendor replacement, they're excellent quality [Newport Engineering] .... folks in the UK, Europe and Cuba have little choice but to pay the 'time and aggravation' rather than paying double or triple what you'll pay for a direct bolt in .... or won't be hard to find a vacuum one you could get rebuilt for about $50 [might not even need rebuilding], how much driving will you be doing in the rain?

yes, for the time to make another one fit.. with the time you put into it. I to have just purchased on from Jim Carter. The fact that it is new is a big plus. The only thing I do not like is the switch they use is way moder like the 1980's I would like to see a vendor make a switch that would look stock.

You guys might want to check out this site [ amequipment.com ] A lot of info on wipers and may help the DYI-ers in the crowd. I am very interested in the pantograph wiper arms and the adjustable sweep parts they sell
