Wow talk about parts getting harder to get, all I wanted to do was change the timing chain on my GMC 305D, Well first of all I had to search for a timing chain, Rock Auto didn't have one and neither did quite alot of other places I checked, finally I found one listed for a 305A at EGGE so I took the chance and bought it,luckily it was the same one so I thought my day was good getting it back together....wrong, wrong gasket set from Auto Zone so I took up the chain cover and it took two hours to get the correct one because they had it listed wrong ( I should have got that from EGGE as well I suppose )so now I'm waiting for that to show up today, my SNAFU scale has hit past 10 on this poor ol engine, I think I'll get some holy water before I put the gaskets on to get rid of the gremlins!

I've been hearing more and more about V-6 parts being hard to find. It doesn't make much sense as there are still 1000's and 1000's of these engines still running today. In general, we really need to hold onto all the used parts we can.

As much as I am a V-6 fan, unfortunately the V-6 was not very common in this area. About 90% of the smaller trucks I see that should normally have a V-6, ends up having a Straight 6 or got converted to a V-8. My V-6, supertuned, got no worse mileage than a Small Block V-8.

Wow even Kanter did not call me back on a gasket kit for my truck, I found a place here in my neck of the woods called Olsens Gaskets www.olsensgaskets.com ,they will pattern out the gasket and make one for me for under $20.00 which I'm more than happy to get, they make gaskets for anything, pass it around!

If you need just the Gasket you can go buy some cork gasket material and make your own. If you need to use some HI-Temp Silcone.

As a side note, I have discovered that Auto Zone will sell you anything and call it what you needed. I have this experience in three diffrent stores here in my city. That's three trips to the store, home and back again. It's NAPA for me for now on. If they don't have it, they tell you and can order it and ususlly have it in less than 4 hours, and on rare occasions the next day. Good luck!

I did finally get it together with the help of Olsens Gaskets now I'm on another quest with timing and overheating and fun stuff like that, thank you for the NAPA info I will keep that in mind as well as just making my own next time. Thank you all for the info.
