the new bearing should come with the other circlip that keeps it from going too far into the gearbox, so you only have to reuse the small one.
it simply slides on. Did mine a couple of weeks ago. took 30 mins inc making a new gasket for the cover from scratch. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | After you remove the retainer & Coller remove the snapring that holds it to the shaft. Pull the shaft out about a quarter or half in. If you have a bearing spreader put on the bearing behind the outer snap ring & use a puller to pull the brg. If you don't have this equip. put some square stock like chisels or square screwdrivers between the snap ring & case. Tap the shaft back with a hammer & brass drift. After it is back all the way pull it out a little again & use larger squares. Do not pull the shaft out more then about 1/2 in. You might be lucky like Neil & it will slide right off but generally takes some persuasion.

If you pull the input shaft out to far those "14" bearings will fall out. Do you have the schematic? Once you get into them they'r not that difficult to work on. Hope you have "good" retaining ring & locking ring pliers. You don't need snapring pliers. Just slipped off the old front bearing and put on the one I had from another Saginaw and that fixed the problem. The only hard part was the retainer ring. I didn't have the right pliers which took some time, beer and swearing but all is good so far after a short road test. Thanks bolters!! | | |
