on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 135 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 135 | Hi. new to Stovebolt. I have a 64 Chevy Fleetside, 4x4, 4 speed, 283 V8. The truck was formally a service station vehicle. There is a winch built into the bed and its integrated into the transmission. Original 46k miles. She runs well and I am slowly restoring her. Looking forward to learning from everyone. My next project will be to replace the rubber cab mounts. I don't know how to approach this project. Anyone have experience and can offer some direction? thanks John

I attempted to replace the cab mounts by simply unbolting them, and lifting one corner of the cab at a time with a floor jack padded by a piece of wood. It was very simple and worked fine - except - at the time nobody made the correct cab mounts for a 1960 GMC. I had to give up and bolt it back together with the original mounts since the later style is completely different.
I've never bothered to check for correct mounts since then, but the concept was very simple, didn't require removing the cab, and worked fine. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 135 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 135 | thank you for the reply. This is how I was going to approach it, so glad someone else went through it.

Yes, they are the same as the ones you show. I ordered the 1/2 ton kit from Classic Parts. They didn't defferentiate between 4x4 or not but will give it a try.
Did you jack up each side of the cab and put the mounts on, one at a time? My rear driver side rubber mount is completely gone and the vibrations while driving are terrible. I'm starting that project next weekend.

I would suggest spraying the old crusty existing mount bolts down now with penetrating oil. If you can spray down the bolt head from inside the cab too, it may soak down and run onto the shank of the bolt, that's where mine were siezed up.
If yours are like mine the drivers side wasn't bad, passenger side was rusted solid. Had to use an air chisel to hammer it loose from it's 45 year home.
I ingested my yearly supply of iron :-)
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

The hardest one was removing the rear drivers' side mounts as it was under the gas tank. Had to remove the belts around the tank and move it to get access to the bots. I used the mounts from LMC. I didn't think the directions where that helpful and need to refer to the shop manual for mount positioning.
I've noticed a quieter and softer ride.
Thanks for the assistance. john

I do not need entire set, just left/right rear for 62 1/2 ton. | | |
