I have installed new fuel pump, fuel lines, and rebuilt the carb in my 1948 2ton. I have the tank out and removed the sending unit. Pretty cool, the float is two large corks. Anyhow, I looked in the tank and there isn't any rust that I can see, but there is some yellowed stained, gas vanish. Could I use carb cleaner, slosh it around, then rinse with a little fresh gas?

Try lacquer thinner. Should dissolve the varnish.

Some have said from my reading that that particular varnish is difficult if not impossible to remove. Good luck!

Thanks for the info.If carb cleaner or lacer thiner won't take it off, then I won't need to worry about it too much. If it was rusty I was going to take to the rad shop for the cleaning and Redkote. But it just doesn't,t need that much work. It cost about $275 Canadian.

Thinner worked fine for me. Be glad you have a rad. shop who will still do that. The shop's down here won't touch one.
