i have 65 gmc that i want to change steering columns to later model tilt. what years do i need to look for. tks

Do you want to leave the ignition in the dash? A lot of the vans up to the early '80s should work with minor modifications.

I have a tilt wheel column out of a 1988 full size pickup that had floor shift

By '72 a tilt column was an option in the pickup. The ideal answer would be one of those early columns or the van column as already suggested.

Otherwise you are looking at locking column options and most any rear drive GM tilt column can most likely be adapted.

I would like to find a no key tilt for sale.

Advertise in the swap meet or look at aftermarket options.

Make one, I've done it several times.
Get the column you like.
Remove the ignition tumblers & steering wheel locking mechanism.
Grind off the numb from the ignition tumblers and fill the hole.
I used JB Weld & finished it up w/some bondo.
Sand everything smooth & paint it your favorite color.

Heck I made a 94 GM FWD tilt column look like it could have came out of a mid 70's GM car/truck.
In the future I may remove ignition tumblers & steering wheel locking mechanism and smooth everything out(this column) but I haven't made up my mind yet....joe

I have done it in the past to several other columns.

On the link I made the 94 FWD column to look like a 70's GM column but hadn't decided if I wanted to remove the ignition tumblers or not on this column...joe
