I have a 69 transmission I'm wandering if the shift arms on the side cover are correct. Could anyone send a picture of shift arms on a 66? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 942 | If you are still wanting to use the Shifter on the Column, it will probably be a challange. The Side Covers are pretty much different from each other. Unless someone one on here can jump in with a good way to tackle it, you may just want to go with a Floor Shifter. By the way, you'll also need to shorten the Driveshaft.

I was hoping someone knows for sure what was on the 66. I think my arms are off a 74,had to buy another transmission. The shifter arms were missing,so I,m trying to use what I have. Correct me if I'm wrong that the newer 3-Speed Synchro trans is not a Short Shaft trans.

Many years ago, I swapped in a later 3spd Muncie(?) trans into the 63 I had then. As I remember, the lower end of the later arms were grafted to the upper ends of the early arms and then with some tweaking to fit better, it worked, but not well.
It seems there was some flex or poor angles that gave it a less than positive feel. A local trans shop did the work for me, and I never tried to improve on it before selling the truck. | | |
