I have a chance to get a 1/2 ton 55-59 wiring harness for dirt cheap. however, it's for a generator and I have an alternator. anyone know if I can easily modify this? to do it perfect I'd probably get a seperate alternator conversion harness, I'd still be well below half the cost of buying a harness the regular way.

also, this is for a half ton (short bed). I have a long truck. am I wrong in thinking that I could just add a little length and that'd take care of this?

and 3rd: having a panel truck my gas tank is under my truck, would this cause any problems?

all help appreciated, thanks!

yes, totally adaptable, same harness fits my 58 long box as fit my 57 short panel - the alt is easy change with or without the purchased harness, the gas tank wire goes under the floor in a pickup as well and then up to the tank so about same length - the seperate section that does the tail lights will fit long or short bed, but easy to add on if necessary to get up thru the side panels/door .... grab some dirt and get that harness wink

To wire in an alternator without a special harness, connect the A wire at the generator end to your alternator output, at the point in the loom where the generator regulator would have gone, connect the A wire to the B wire and insulate the joint. That'll do it if you have a single wire alternator on your truck.

If you have a three wire alternator, connect the A wire as above, loop the S connection to the alternator output terminal, and connect the alternator F connection to the generator F wire, then connect and insulate a new wire to the F connection at the regulator end, and connect this new wire to the output side of the ignition switch.

This might sound complicated but it's easier to do this job than describe it!

Stuart.
