I have a 56' 235 that was swapped into a 49' 3600. The prior owner hacked the upper and lower front end cowels and turned the radiator support around to accomodate the longer water pump. I want to make it right. What's the best way to go?

Patricks sells a water pump adapter kit, made especially for what youre doing.
Do a search on this site for their address, and more info.

Are you sure the support is "backwards"? It would be difficult to get the inner aprons, hood latch and grille to fit if so. I recently installed a 61 235 in my 51 Burb. Changed the water neck and slid the water pump collar back on the shaft and cut off the snout. I was able to go with the bigger fan blades. I'm courious what your refering to by "cut up" upper/lower cowls? Got some pic's? The tech tips has good information regarding the engine swap.

Make that two votes for the Patrick's kit.

I'd use the $40 adaptor plate that's sold on ebay. Because it uses the old style HIGH water pump which puts the fan up where it belongs in your 49 and not down hitting the balancer and the bottom rad. hose.

The adapter plate for the old style pump is the best way to go.

I didn't find the "kit" mentioned above on Patrick's website but I'm betting it is a stock '55 and later pump that has been cut off and a 292 Ford pulley. You can do it yourself cheaper. That is what we did in the old days.

But that was before the adapter plate was available. Like I said, that is the best way to go.
