I am told my 1933 1.5ton 216 has multiple cracks in the head. Looking for advice/opinions about whether to buy another head or perhaps swap out for another motor...235? Anybody got a good replacement head? I want to start driving this truck to the farmers market.

Hy Virginia Brewer, Are you sure you have a 216, I didn't think that they came out until 1937, I just want you to get the correct parts, I think a 207 was the stock engine in 1933, hope that helps.

My 2 cents...Is the crack/cracks leaking water? Often times, there are stress cracks in the combustion chamber that cause no problems. It's made it 77 years, I'd fix it the way it is...no alterations, even if I had to find another head. Jim

I put the truck in the shop to be checked because I was getting water in the oil. The head was pulled to check the gasket which checked ok, so the head was sent to a shop. They came back saying there are 5 hairline cracks.

I'll have to double check on the engine size...thanks to both of you for the comments.

Can anyone suggest ways to identify my motor which I assume is a 207? The head does not appear to have any identifying marks. Also, I am looking for a replacement head. I am told it has 5 cracks that can be repaired for $$$

thanks, Jim

Give me the casting number off of the passenger side of the block. The head casting number will be under the valve cover. There will also be a serial number stamped on the flat machined surface near the fuel pump.

Jim;
As stated above, the casting numbers will tell you what you have. I have a couple 1933 Chevy trucks,and they both have the 207. If you can't find a replacement head closer to Virginia, let me know. I imagine shipping charges would be high from Colorado to Virginia.

Sorry for the tardy reply here. Just got into the shop where my truck is stored. Numbers I got off the motor are: 837231-10 and 836961......I am trying to identify the motor. Any help is appreciated and then I am ready to buy parts.

thanks, Jim

Jim,

Casting number 837231 is a 1933 Block part number 364314.

Casting number 836961 is a 1933 Head part number 836960.

These were used on Models CA, CB & O.

There were four 1-1/2 ton "O" models available;

OA = 131" Single Wheel
OB = 131" Dual Wheel
OC = 157" Single Wheel
OD = 157" Dual Wheel

Thank you very much Mike! I have a dually, not sure of the length. There are some offers for a replacement head on the parts forum....do I just need to insure the head I buy has the same casting number? Greg, I will check what else is available and let you know. I very much appreciate the offer and assistance from all.

Jim,

You can't go wrong by matching the casting numbers.

My parts book lists 1933 as a one year part number. So there must be a difference between it and the 1932 and 1934. However, just because they are different doesn't mean they won't bolt up and work, I just don't have any real experence with these years.

Greg, I am actively looking to buy the head for my truck now. I will see what comes out of a posting on "Parts Wanted" and if nothing closer to home, I appreciate your offer.

thanks, Jim
