Just for grins....

Has anybody tried putting one of the T-56 6 speeds behind an I-6?

Seems like it would be a killer combo.

I have no clue what the cost/availability of a used one is, but as they have been around a while seems like a few should be cropping up in the salvage yards by now.

I can't think that would make a good trans for a truck. The T-56 and the Vette ZF 6spd are both double overdrive transmissions. 4th gear is direct drive, 5th is 0.74 over and 6th is 0.52 over.
There is also the shifter location. It would be under the seat, way under. There are no optional shifter locations like a Tremec or different tailhousings like a T-5.

The "Doug Nash" or now "Richmond" six speeds might work. They are side shifting transmissions, so you may be able to manipulate the "Hurst-like" linkage to get the shifter in the proper location. Only 6th gear is overdrive on these transmisions. 1- 5 gear ratios should be close ratio, similar to what is available on the Richmond 5 speeds.

Of course the Physical characteristics of transmissions are important towards selecting the appropriate transmision for a swap, as well as gear ratios, and the kind of HP and torque the transmissions can handel. A summary of the different transmissions available, and why they may or may not work would make an invaluable tech tip. Send YOUR summaries in to this post, or the one I started the other day!

Thanks for the input guys.

Richard you make an excellent point about the shifter location - and that is exactly why I posted this, much cheaper to find out now instead of spending time & money to look only to find out the shifter is in the bed!

Big, I think the Richmond is probably the way to go. My guess is it will bolt right up to a 292
and be able to accomodate a tall enough rear gear
to run the 80 mph (Interstate) speed limits out here in West Texas.

Thanks Again for the input!
