hey can any one tell me what to look for, im heading to the junk yard this weekend cause they are having a 1/2 off sale! i have a 66 c-30 that im going to rat rod. it has the stock 4 on the floor, and a 62'-63' 327cid. the intake was for a 283. im going to be getting this http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/5419/10002/-1 intake manifold, but i dont know what kind of carbs to put on it (i wasnt planning to do it quite yet so i havent put any research into it) id like to find 3 of the same but i have never worked with 2 barrel carbs. i dont want to buy nice new pretty carbs designed to work together flawlessly- im getting mine from the junk yard. ruff tuff and dirty. i need to know what years makes and models- or engines have 2 barrel carbs that i can use to replace a 4barrel at 600 cfm. or if you know better about what works with a 327 i would appreciate the advice. thanks guys!

For that manifold you have to find the small Rochester 2 barrel carbs used from 55 up to the late 60's on 283 engines. They are a little hard to find. I know what you mean you like to take stuff & fix it up. Be careful that the carbs are not full of corrosion. Some of them can't be rebuilt. I have built 2 of those setups, although I havn't run either one yet. I sold one at the swap meet so I built another one. If you would like to see photo's of it send me an E-mail address. As the page says "Carburetor Recommendations: Rochester 2GC."

The factory 3 × 2 installations were pretty complicated, with different circuitry used primary vs. secondary, vacuum linkage, etc.

My brother is building a tri-power for a 283 and has decided to cheap out on his approach. He has one usable carb and he is mounting it in the middle and just putting dummy linkage to the other carbs.

Somehow I think this one is more about the look than the performance....

As he finds more good carbs he may improve it, but today the motor isn't even in the truck ('36 Dodge) so its not critical.

well i found 2 rochester 2 jets at the bone yard yesterday- but i believe they are the wrong ones; something about the throttle body plates being bigger than the ones i was supposed to get. but i did a little research and came across this http://www.amcca.com.au/forum/viewthread.php?tid=1732 it seems like i could do it without the kit. the kit with the progressive linkage is around 350 bucks! screw that- im trying to keep it low budget! but between the explanation on that page, the expanded view on the speedway motors page (including one just of the progressive linkage), and what experience i have adjusting throttle plates to change cfm, i think it would be quite possible to do it without the kit- just a lot more tuning. basically the kit makes the triple deuce into a large square bore; one primary and 2 secondaries. the middle one is the primary-idle to part throttle, which increases fuel economy, and it continues to operate through the full throttle range as normal. the progressive linkage keeps the throttle plates on the front and rear carbs closed until part throttle. the front and rear carbs (secondaries) are modified a little; removing the power valve piston, and plugging the powervalve with allen head screws ( those are definitely worth the $350 cause they are so hard to find lol) they basicaly have their primary components removed. once the progressive linkage kicks them in you are already rolling! the article also gives jet sizes, so i dont have to go through a bunch of guessing b.s. to get it right. i love making things like this, and i am tweekerishly fastidious when it comes to these things, if any one can see any problems i may have, or for some reason thinks it cant be done, id appreciate the heads up. im currently rebuilding te motor and am going to be reinstalling the manifold and carb that came with the truck until i get this maniflod and carb set up working so i got all the time in the world to spend on it. even the carbs that i got went strait into my storage so i will stay on track! lol (if i have them sitting on my desk ill want to play with them while im trying to do other things)

The first one I did I didn't buy the kit. I adjusted the throttle stops so they closed but not quite enough so they bind. I made up my own progressive linkage uses rods & heim ends. Like I said I sold it before I ever ran it. The 2nd one I built I used a kit from Speed way. I will put it on my 58 soon. I don't know how to post a link to the photo's but I could e-mail them to someone that can put them on a link. They are beautiful.
