For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 18 | Hi guys,
I'm putting my '42 loadmaster 235 back together and am about to get some stencils cut to re-apply the 'load master high torque engine' script. I've scanned and cleaned mine up, but i'm missing the 'master' (it rubbed off over the years.
If anyone is willing to scan their script for me i would gladly offer to send a stencil in return. I can walk you through the scanning part if you need help with that.
ps. if you've got a thriftmaster the master font should be the same and will work. I can have a stencil cut if you can the whole thing (in parts) and send it to me.
thanks, Shane.

A stencil is technically a mask that you hold against something and then spray or brush paint through the openings in to achieve the finished result.
Is this what you are making or are you making the stencil-style script that sticks to the rocker cover... like cut vinyl.
Just a bit confused here and would like a clarification. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 7 | Pls put me down as interested. If decal or vinyl lettering, I wonder how they will hold up with the 180deg+F oil heat - that'll need to be considered. The lettering is long gone from my original rocker cover, but I assume from old photos that the original was probably applied using a brass permanent stencil laid on the cover and the white lettering spray painted.
How about a die cut negative vinyl stencil so that the lettering paint can be sprayed with clean sharp edges? Then peel off the vinyl stencil (maybe this is what you are already intending). | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 18 | I'm having vinyl stencils cut (which are more durable than paper stencils). Decals would cost the came, but my truck had painted lettering and not decals. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 493 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 493 | Make sure to test a piece of the vinyl with the paint you use. It would suck for the thinner used in the paint swell the vinyl and dissolve the glue. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 46 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 46 | I have a 1956 235 ci engine and from wehat i can figure out it is a Load Master engine. I would like this Stencil so i can spray some high heat paint on my valve cover also. please let us know how this is going/. The vinyl that commercial lettering works good, and you don't need high temperature paint for the engine or the valve covers. Bumper sticker vinyl works the best. As with any vinyl lettering material, you may have some glue stick to the surface, but you can rub it off with your finger when the paint is dry. Frank Cox Cox Custom Cars

For all the experts out there, what constitutes a "Thriftmaster" and what is a "Loadmaster"?

After the middle of 1949, Thriftmaster referred to the standard 6-cylinder truck engine (216 or 235, depending on the year), and Loadmaster referred to an optional, usually larger or more-powerful 6 cylinder. In 1954, a Jobmaster 261 truck engine was added. In later years (1955 an onwards?), I think the Trademaster/Taskmaster/Roadmaster/Workmaster names were given for V-8 engines | | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 544 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 544 | So if I have a 1949, 3800 with a 216 motor, manufactured per the vin number referenced to the vin decoder link on this site, it was put together December 1949 in Kansas City, would I be looking at a thrift or a load?
At what point of truck size did it change? Loadmaster only for 4000 & 6000s? Above a 3100?
Thanks

Do you have hood side emblems? Does it look like this? (1947 through mid-year 1949) or Does it look like this? (mid-year 1949-1952) There were two emblems on each side of the 49-2nd through 1952 hoods - the emblem above and a model number emblem just below. Chevs of the 40s has a variety of hood side emblem photos. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 544 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 544 | mid-49 to 52. and it is the original motor
