Mine are rusting and fouling up the paint. To my way of ciphering, they are 8/32 X 1+1/4. I have found these at McMaster/Carr

But the ones I have removed appear to be tapered at the end. Question, anywhere to buy these rascals w/o worrying if I have a lifetime supply of machine screws I don't need because these don't taper (minimum order 25 screws)? I hope I'm not violating any rules by posting the link.

Hey Pete. For some reason the factory "J" clips for the '63 Chevy truck grille bezels require a machine screw, rather than a standard "J" nut, that requires a regular screw. Perhaps stainless or chrome is the way to go. You can find this style, by-the-piece, in the yellow slid bins at your local big box home center in your area. The tapered end is to help with starting & to avoid cross-threading, so be careful and you should be fine using them.

P.S. - I am a freak when it comes to "factory-correct" however, I have used the stainless steel, non-tapered, machine screws you listed, to avoid the bleeding onto the paint, as well as, the rusting into the fine threaded "J" nut. I have broken several of these style off in the nut, when removing, so I am for this minor, but important, improvement.

Thanks Tony, I too watch Barrett-Jackson way too much! I have all the original paperwork from the dealer and the build sheet for my truck. I am really wrestling with putting power steering in due to multiple rotator cuff operations in each shoulder. I'm still managing though. I'm headed to Lowe's, thanks for your time m friend.
