Hello all, long time gone, good to be back! ! !
I need to ask if the stock bellhousing crossmember needs to be removed in order to install a TH 350 in my '65 C10 SWB.
It came stock with the 283/3 speed combo.

Hi Crowbar,

Yes, the crossmember that holds the mounts for the old style bellhousing will have to come out. I removed mine while the engine and transmission was out, using an air chizzel and you will need to use a cross member under the transmission support on the th350. The cross member from a '70 will work, or it did in my
'64 cab on a '66 frame. The holes were already in place in the frame, but a '66 came from the factory with th350 as an option so a '65 may not have the holes. You will need to go to Auto Zone to get a "U" Joint and you will need to get a Trans. yoke for an automatic transmission. If you need to know more, "E" mail me. My address is on my profile.

I already have a crossmember in the rear, (my Dad had installed a granny 4 speed) so I should be good to go.
I have done a swap to a '77 Malibu rear end and three speed tranny, but....
The three speed would appear to have been geared for a truck with 3.73's or 4.11's, as it is HARD to get it rolling with the gears (2.43's?) that are in the Malibu rear.
But..once it gets rolling, the truck really flies ! !
75 mph with ease and 20+ mpg with a carb.
