I am looking to swap the old 1935 6 cylinder out and put in a 1967 ford 289 in. Does anybody make a kit for this, will it even fit and how tough of a job will this be?

A transfer like this could be accompanied by severe rejection complications ultimately resulting in the death of the patient eek . Would you put pig heart valves in a human heart?

I don't think anyone makes a kit for it but it can be done. How tough of a job depends on your fabrication skills. Hot rod shops sell weld in mounts. Check out www.sacherodshop.com and www.speedwaymotors.com and www.yogisinc.com.

Don't let any of these prejudiced guys talk you out of doing what you want to do with your truck.

I apologize if anybody took offense. I didn't have any real answer, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to give the guy a ribbing about mixing Ford and Chevy parts. :p I actually have a 68 Mustang with a 289 parked in my driveway that I'm fixing up for my wife. Of course I keep it behind the gate where my neighbors can't see it. grin

No offense meant... I too follow the mantra of "It's your rod. You do what you like." In fact my first car had a 289. Oddly enough Lumbergh it was a 68 mustang too. That was one quick car.

People have been putting chevy's into foooorrrdddsss for a while now, why not turn it around. Just get thick skin cause your gonna get some ribbin, or just build a wicked fast ford engine and shut them that way. A buddy put a 360 chrysler in a chevelle so there have been stranger things done.

Seriously that little 289 is compact enough to fit without many clearance problems, paint it orange and most people won't know the difference.LOL

I have a ford 302 in my 46 chevy truck that we pulled from a 69 mercury montego donor car. It can be done and you should contact these guys:

http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/

I got the motor mounts for that swap from them. I also got the transmission mount for the c4 and the mount kit for the pacer IFS we put in.

They have what you need. You may need to box the frame where you are putting the kits or they may be able to make them without having to...

We swapped out putting a 302 Windsor into a 56 GMC for a fellow that done metal buildings. I think we used a tubular mount from Chassis Engineering that ran from frame rail to rail and welded the mount stands to this. If you need the short waterpump/pulley setup don't buy aftermarket, the V8 T-birds in the early 90's had them. Two things can be said about this: they're a tough little engine cause teenagers beat the heck out of them in their mustangs, and reaching the distributer across those high 56 fenders was sure easier. Everything from accelerater linkage to radiator outlets are all wrong but that what hot rodders do.

Very nice point coilover. I forgot to mention about the radiator outlets, brakes, and gas pedal and linkage. We used the pedals from the donor car (69 montego) for the brake and gas and made custome brackets. I also used the 46 radiator frame and cut little notches in it so the radiator from the montego could sit right inside it and it mounted great. Not only did we have no problem with the hoses hooking up right we can buy an inexpensive replacement radiator if we ever have to and change it out in minutes.

That F*** 289 is a nice compact engine, if i remember right it was one of the first over square production engines. It's not a 327, but good for a light weight small vehical.

Thank you all for the great information! I too am a little leary about mixing ford and chevy. But what the heck..putting in a free engine, transmission and rear end makes my wallet feel a little better.
