on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 66 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2010 Posts: 66 | can a 235 oil pan be put on a 261? I have to replace my pan (rod went through side)and i have a 235 pan, it will bolt up. The 261 appears to be a deeper sump and the oil tray (lack of better term)is in different location(vertical) and 235 is horizontal. Thanks for all the help people!! | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy tobin1959, welcome, yes the two oil pans should bolt to the same block, be it a 235 or 261. That being said the two pans you have may not be interchangeable for your application, chassis constraints, oil pump pickup locations, oil capacities, may be different. If you want to change the pan to the good one you have, you must make sure it will work in your chassis, and the oil pump pickup will end up in the new pans sump, and allow the pan to bolt up to the block, good luck, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 66 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2010 Posts: 66 | thanks for the info. i will have to do some measuring to see about chassis clearance and depth of sump. Hope this works out....not sure where to find another 261 pan?? | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 487 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2005 Posts: 487 | How bad is the damage to the original pan? Maybe you could repair it. It's just stamped sheet metal, so you should be able to weld in a patch panel as long as the gasket rail isn't damaged.
