just rebuilt the engine put her back in fired right up idled then stalled when I looked under the hood gas was pumping out of the carb everywhere from the bowl gasket, pump shaft, filled up the intake manifold.Thought oh well needs to be rebuilt ..... so I rebuilt it.. does the same thing... never seen anything like this in 30 some odd years or rebuilding cars ny ideas??? Even changed to an old carb that was on the engine and running before I started the resto.. same thing

A little info would be helpfull.like engine,carb,whats it in ect.

will idle for a minute or 2 then start to stall and overflows gas everywhere, I read on here it may be too much fuel pressure? I will say I don't have the fuel tank installed yet just have the end of the line from the tank in a 1 gal gas can but I wouldn't think that would cause it

The tank does not cause the problem, it's the fuel pump pushing over 2.5 lbs or so will cause flooding. You can get a cheap inline fuel pressure gauge and check. If to much pressure you should try an adjustable regulater from local auto parts, should solve the problem.

Float level might be too high.

Another vote for float level. First set to factory specs. Then if it still overflows,turn that part upside down and bend the tang to raise the floats when it's upside down. Do that in 1/8" increments till the overflowing stops.

Just went through all that last weekend.
Gas everywhere! Scary mess.
With the floats set higher, the gas level in the bowl is actually lower, so it won't overflow.
And I guess there's still enough gas in there for the main jet to pick up.
It worked for me.

Check to make sure the valve in the carb is clean and the seat is working on the float even a small bit of crud will do that,if your'e pulling fuel from a gas can do you have a fuel filter on line if not it could be a bit of crud in the bowl .

yes on the filter , I'm restoring the truck to original down to the last detail( or trying) I don't want to have a regulator visible in the engine compartment if I can help it. It's a factory fuel pump , wht would it be pumping more tan the appropriate amount of fuel? I've set the floats to 1 9/32 per hte rebuild kit but I'll try anything .So your saying I need more float drop?

Did You check the floats for leakage maybe one of the floats is filling with fuel, adjusting the float to factory spec in both ht. and drop is good than what I do is blow into the inlet of the carb with the carb upside down to see if the float needle and seat are working I use a fitting and a short pc. of gas line.

I wouldnt deviate from factory specs for the float. This will upset the other functions of the carb. As stated before make sure the float is not leaking(usually if they are they will have gas in them) Adjust it for height and drop,make sure it doesnt rub on the sides if the bowl. Turn the lid upside down and suck on the inlet fitting,,it should be sealed. If you still have trouble I would suspect rust or other crap in the fuel.

yep checked floats not leaking, i have 2 of these carbs 1 rebuilt and one that was supposedly new when I bought the truck and both the needle seems to stick intermittently in the closed position but i figured the fuel pressure would push them open

Yes with the viton tip on the needle they will stick a little but the pump should push them open. Pump press should be in the 5 lb range.
