For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 22 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 22 | Does anyone know what a piece is that I found on the inside and about half way down the steering column? It's cone shaped on one end and the other a tube. Maybe 6 inches in length. The cone end keeps it snug in the steering column and the other surrounds the steering shaft. The cone end has three notches which allow it to be pulled out of the column when aligned with tabs pressed into the steering wheel end of the column.
My truck is a manual shift on the floor so is this an extra part for an automatic? An alignment tool of some kind? Do I need it or should I take it out?
Both my '63-'64 truck manuals have nothing to say about this piece. I'm reinstalling a new turn signal switch and want to make sure I'm using all the necessary pieces...which I thought I had until I got curious and took that base ring/washer off and found this part behind it.

If not , go to one of the other Chevy vendors web page and see if it is shown . Good luck !
