I need some help in identifying my engine. My truck is a 53 3100 and i suspect that that i have a newer engine in it. The block number is 3769716 and the number just in front of the starter is F0417JC. Some research i did told me that the block was from a 58-62 engine just need be make sure of this

To find the year, there's a date casting code on the block.
Same side as your block number.

It's near the CON 1.
Should be something like D 161.

Do you know what RPO 227 is? The JC suffix supposedly was also used with RPO 227 in lower series trucks (3100, 3200, 3600, & 3800)?

It looks like RPO 227 was a heavy duty 11" clutch available on the 235 trucks up through 1959. In 1960 RPO 223 was the truck heavy duty clutch option and RPO 227 was the car 235 heavy duty clutch option.

Yes, that is it, until 1960 (the 1960 Truck Data Book show RPO 223 as the truck heavy duty clutch option and RPO 227 was the car 235 heavy duty clutch option in 1960).

My comment about 1959 RPO-227 (Heavy Duty Clutch) was related to the JC suffix in the engine serial number of CenCal53's engine.

It looks like JC was used on 4400 trucks in 1959 and on 3100, 3200, 3600, and 3800 trucks with RPO-227 heavy duty clutch.
